NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL FASHION TRENDS - Discover the Hottest Looks

The Notting Hill Carnival history is rich in Caribbean & African culture. MamMaw took to the streets of Notting Hill London to see the mesmerising sights of carnival fashion & costumes.

Every day people attending the Notting Hill Carnival take inspiration from the traditional carnival costumes to create their own street-style fashion outfits. Some clear trends that we see every year include Crop Tops, Ankara Print designs, and Mesh string vest fabrics.

CARNIVAL FASHION: From African Print Fashion to Festival Boho Fashion

One of the looks we love to see is the traditional African print attire of our elders. We met this lovely lady wearing an outfit she had made in Motherland Africa Nigeria.

For the past three years The Dashiki shirt has been so popular, and just last year, we literally saw Dashikis everywhere; however, this year we didn’t see as much Dashiki clothing. It looks like the Dashiki trend is finally dying.

Then there’s the classic Boho look Maxi dresses, Flower power head bands & Aztec tapestry waistcoat.

There were more people adorned with body art this year which stems from the popular African body art worn at festivals such as AfroPunk. At Carnival, it's worn slightly differently. Colourful glass gems are used along with vibrant glitter to create simple artistic designs.

Join the two million party-goers at Notting Hill Carnival 2023 on the 27th and 28th of August. Don’t miss out on the biggest street party in Europe! For more information about the carnival's history, costumes and attendance, visit the Notting Hill Carnival website.

One Love Until Next Year!
