Notting Hill Carnival – Fashion Trends
MamMaw took to the streets of Notting Hill London to see the mesmerising sights of carnival fashion. There are definitely distinctive clear trends that we see each year at Carnival for example “Crop Tops” “Ankara Prints” “Mesh” and those extra special outfits that are inspired by the traditional Notting Hill Carnival Costumes… you know those outfits that want to be costumes but aren’t and in our opinion are much better because they are much more comfortable & affordable.
One of the looks we love to see is the traditional African print attire of our elder’s we met this lovely lady wearing an outfit she had made in the Motherland Africa Nigeria.
For the past three years The Dashiki has been so popular and just last year we literally saw Dashikis everywhere however this year we didn’t see as many Dashikis it looks like the Dashiki trend is finally dying.
Then there’s the classic Boho look Maxi dresses, Flower power head bands & Aztec tapestry waistcoat.
There were more people adorned with body art this year which stems from the popular African body art worn at festivals such as AfroPunk, at Carnival its worn slightly different, colourful glass gems are used along with vibrant glitter to create simple artistic designs.
The largest carnival in Europe happens once a year for two days over the bank holiday weekend in August in and around the streets of Notting Hill for more info visit The Notting Hill Carnival Website.
