Discover MamMaw's New Ankara Print Collection from Ghana
A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER
Welcome to this week's African Lifestyle Blog UK. Can you believe it’s March already? I can’t believe it was just a few weeks ago that I was popping in and out of fabric merchants in Ghana, selecting gorgeous prints for the up-and-coming collection of MamMaw.com
I always get nervous when I am selecting fabrics because I wonder… Will anyone even like this Ankara print? So, I literally spend hours staring at hundreds of beautiful fabrics. I usually have a banter with the fabric merchants, talking and laughing until I finally make the decision… “Yes, I think the MamMaw woman will like this Ankara print!”
And then there are those special fabrics I see, and at first, glance thinks, “YES, The MamMaw woman is going to LOVE this Ankara print!” and I buy them straight away – no questions asked, putting a smile on the fabric merchant's face.
GHANA HAS A VIBE THAT I JUST LOVE!
The sun kisses my body in all the right places, the food tantalises my taste buds to the point where I do a little food dance. and the people… the people are so helpful.
I visited the bustling markets of Accra, where I watched Ghanaian men & women work hard all day, carrying all types of products on their heads, from bags of water and big bowls of fruit to a stack of chairs. Yes, you heard right – a stack of chairs. Ghanaian people are true entrepreneurs!
In the villages I visited, I experienced a laid-back vibe. People went about their business at their own pace without the loud rushing around that we city-dwellers are used to. The lush green countryside was truly inspirational. I could watch the green views all day—Mother Nature at her finest.
One of the highlights of my trip was meeting a stunning young woman while I was strolling through the shopping mall. I just had my nails done, and as soon as I saw her, I knew she would look amazing wearing MamMaw. Luckily for me, she agreed to model for us, and we did a shoot a few days later.
The new collection will be launching soon – in the next few weeks in fact. There will be another blog post with a sneak peek before the launch. In the meantime, we would love to hear from you.
MamMaw is currently looking for everyday women to model our designs. They can be of all shapes and from sizes 8 to 18. If you are interested or know someone that is, send an email directly to shantel@mammaw.com or call +44 20 3286 2141.
Stay Beautiful,
Shantel MamMaw.
